Marketing Mistakes to Avoid and to Adapt

Here is a list of the most common marketing mistakes to avoid so you can make the most of your investments:
- Failed to make a survey on a portion of the target market before launching a product or service. Make sure you will meet customer needs and demands because no matter how you love your product, if the buying public will not avail it, then it’s useless. It will just end up to be a waste of time, money and effort. Therefore, it is important to seek opinions from customers and clients what they think of your product or service before releasing them in the market. Besides, not everything that you can think of will hit the market.
- Failed to justify why a price of specific product or service is much lower in comparison to others. Oftentimes, people will suspect that you are offering a cheaper price due to lack of reliable service, or it is of inferior quality. Perhaps a little rationalization of the price and an explanation of how you can offer a better-quality product or service will do the trick.
- Lack of the variety of ways to purchase or avail a product or service. Don’t waste your prospects’ time and make it easier for them to buy so they will keep coming back to buy more.
- Lack of unique selling strategies. Think of something that will stand out in the crowd of competitors by developing a good marketing strategy to attract the consumers.
- Over-reacting to the environment and competitors while spending more and accomplishing lesser results.
- Failing to prepare a follow-up product in case the first product is successful. Usually, if a customer gets satisfied with a product, they will most likely ask for a follow-up product so be sure to have one.
- Plummeting or eliminating marketing efforts. Be more careful with your marketing efforts and don’t forget to be creative in offering an interesting deal with your marketing vendors.
- Thinking short-term and failing to identify specific goals and objectives.
- Every time a client knocks at your door, you accept them. Sometimes, you have to trust your instincts that if you think a potential client can be more of a headache rather than of help, then better get rid of them. Choose your clients well and only select those whom you can efficiently work with and those that closely match your business model.
- At times offering arbitrary discounts can be a bad idea. Like for example offering a product half the price of the original cost may leave your clients doubting the quality of your product. If your customers lack the budget, then try to offer them with a similar product but with lesser features instead so you don’t risk ruining your product image. After all, negotiating to create a win-win situation is never wrong in the first place.
- Trying to be everything to everyone. Try not to diversify your business model and let your competitors do everything instead. Focus on what your business is skilled at so you don’t confuse your clients and avoid them from lowering their perception of the value of your product.
- Giving up too quickly.
However, these mistakes can easily be corrected with a good marketing plan. Surprisingly, thinking like kids can be beneficial with our marketing and the good thing is, we can still think like the way we used to when we were still kids. Here’s how:
- Getting excited. As a kid, every time we give our masterpiece to our parents such as a handmade greeting card, we get over excited and proud. In relation to launching a new product, we should also be excited because if we don’t, who else would?
- Getting others excited by thinking big. Yielding exceptional results takes about the same amount of effort as yielding average results. So, get motivated with bigger dreams just like kids do because anyway, others get more excited about bigger ideas too.
- Be original and be imaginative. Just as kids want to be different among others, take a stand and make a distinction from your competitors in a unique and creative manner.
- Gain friends. We should embrace every opportunity to gain new friends just like how every kid easily makes new friends on the playground in just a few seconds. Who knows, you might be meeting your dream client or perhaps a future business partner.
- Have fun. Kids usually have fun doing almost anything while adults tend to forget about fun, which isn’t a good idea because when you dispose of the fun out of something, you tend to be less passionate and less productive at what you are doing.
